Geocache Description:

This is what in the old days would have been a virtual cache but now has a container with a log book. The purpose is to give cachers a reason to pull over and read a bit about the local history.

While placing this cache we spoke with the man living in the nearby home which is part of the original historical site and his dog "Dixie". We told him he may be seeing a few more cars stopping at the sign in the next week or so! He thought it sounded like a great game. He also offered a bit of history that isn't on the sign. The old timers say that the mother and son of the original homesteader killed the first school teacher in the area because the daughter/sister said he had gotten her pregnant....well, the story goes that she still hadn't given birth 3 years later!!!

Your mission is to sign the log and tell us what historical occurrence happened here in 1855-1856. Please email the answer and do not include it in your log entry.
