Geocache Description:

This journey is part of a cache series commemorating the travels of Leatherman in the late 1800s.

Leatherman once roamed SW Connecticut and SE New York from 1858 to 1889. He traveled a 365-mile loop between the Connecticut and Hudson rivers. Approximately every month he would repeat his journey. The man spoke primarily with grunts or gestures and dressed in crudely stitched leather from his hat to his shoes. The suit was made of heavy pieces of raw leather weighing more than sixty pounds. He would sleep outside year-round mostly in caves around Connecticut and New York. More information on Leatherman can be found at http://www.bearsystems.com/OldLeatherMan/OldLeatherMan.htm

Leatherman may have slept here but this is Nichole’s place now. The posted coordinates will bring you into the general vicinity of the cave. To find the cache you will need to determine the date that Nichole moved in, a flash light may be helpful. Add the day times 2 to the north coordinate to get the coordinate for the final cache. West is the same as posted above. The cache is placed near another potential Leatherman hide out. After finding the cache head south a bit for a great view over top of Leatherman’s cave.

Depending on your mood you can park at N41 38.767, W073 05.66 for a hard hike with great views. For this approach the terrain is a solid 3.5 and some bush wacking will be required, follow blue until you reach the fire road. Or you can park at N41 38.165; W073 05.668 and follow the fire road. You will find the cave easily off trails from the fire road. No bush wacking is required to get to the cave. Finding the final will be more challenging. There are 2 approaches to the final. Both will require some bush wacking.
