Hoofocker Mystery Cache
minstrelboy: RIP Hoofocker. What a way to get muggled...by the BOMB SQUAD!!! This one has been an extraordinary cache since it was created, it was a fitting way to go. I was actually recording the news to see our neighbor kids interview for the triathlon, and...SURPRISE!!! My mouth hung open for a good five minutes. Rest in pieces, old friend!

A Geocaching rule of thumb has been stated, "Never place a micro
when a regular will do." This one is the opposite - a BIG regular
where one would find a micro. (Note: I replaced in a different
location after the 1st muggling)
Here's the story. Not far from here, there was a cache, a micro,
located on a state historical marker. This marker was surrounded by
car and insurance businesses, but still public property. Well, one
particular business owner became known for angrily harassing
cachers snooping around the sign. Many were scared away from
finding it. My brother, his girfriend and I saw it as a challenge.
Here's what we did... On a snowy February after noon we put on our
"costumes." (We picked up a couple vests and cowboy hats from
Savers, and cut the brims off the hats.) We practiced speaking
"Fake Russian" and drove up with the radio playing "Balkan Train
Robbery." We get out and start reading the sign out loud in
"broken" English. When we get to the word Huffaker, we pronounce it
"Hoofocker," pause and start laughing loudly and shouting
"Hoofocker!!!" We pull out cameras, snap a lot of pictures, grab
the cache and leave. All the while, the grouchy man stood on the
porch and glared at us, but obviously, we were too ethnic for him
to approach. We had a blast! The cache lasted for a few more months
before disappearing. This cache is a ressurection of sorts of the
great fun that was (and may yet still be) SHM Huffaker cache. The
cache is about 300 feet south of the original marker and it's
SHOCKINGLY in plain sight, but is locked up. To open it, you will
need the combination consisting of four letters. Those letters are
located on the State Historical Marker at the following
coordinates: N39 26.480 W119 46.309 You will need the following
letters off the sign for the combination: 1st Letter: First letter
of the second to last word on the sign (in RED) 2nd Letter: Last
letter of the tenth line (not including the title) 3rd Letter: 1st
Letter of Mr. Huffaker's first name 4th Letter: 6th Letter of the
14th Line **After you open the cache, please be careful to re-lock
the red lockby pushing it in (with the correct combination showing)
and scrambling the letters. Then, please reset the tumblers to
spell "LOCO."** This cache should be SUPER EASY, but the fun is
that it should give you a SUPER QUEASY feeling in your belly. I
have left 10 DVDs of a video made from pictures of the original
