Out and about with my good mate WhiteFriar on a very pleasant day, nice temperature, not the slightest threat of rain and even a little bit of sunshine from time to time. Our starting point was to identify some caches that we wanted for the various challenges we are attempting, then we added in a mass of Church Micros, a couple of SideTracked and a Fine Pair that were in the same area. Regrettably we failed on one of our main objectives but everything else found, so, all in all, a pretty good, if knackering day (we are not getting any younger!).
Our last cache of the day and by far the most memorable! We had parked on the ridge and walked the mile down to GZ to find it in a wood completely surrounded by a fence! Caught in the act as we climbed the fence by a couple of gamekeepers we explained what we were at. They were actually a nice couple of guys but they were adamant that the land was private and the owner very definitely did not want anyone visiting. (We understand he was concerned about liability should anyone hurt themselves.)
After some conversation they asked we would retrieve and remove the cache, which we duly did. They also informed us that the two kiln chimneys are due to be capped with gratings to make them safe. Apparently they've already had a dog fall in and need rescuing. We parted on good terms and made our way back to the car in the gathering gloom. Last cache of the day and the best.
