Monday, 17 September 2018Aland Islands

Since a long time, I wanted to do a Baltics tour, never visited these countries before. Initially, I was thinking about travelling on a cruise ship, but when I got the offer to travel together with a group of geocachers, it was clear to me: this is the way to go. So, a group of 20 “crazy cachers” from Germany, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria met in Warsaw to start our trip through 8 countries (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Russia, Aland Islands, Sweden). This was 10 days of pure fun, cool people, nice discussions, long roads by bus, enjoyable ferry ships, good food, wonderful locations, interesting sites, almost always sunny weather, pleasant events and of course many, many, many (many!) caches. What a cool trip this was!

The tenth and last day: Visit of a country lots of people are not aware of: Åland Islands. We arrive in Marienhamn in the middle of the night, and Åland is not really welcoming us: it is cold and heavily raining. But this does not stop us, we came here to finds as much caches as possible… But despite the weather, we have fun to discover this new country. After some hours, we leave again to go to Stockholm, our last stop. Here, the wheather is again sunny and warm, and we are welcomed by many, many geocachers who met us during our short event. Wow. Before leaving Stockholm, some very important caches have to be found: the MoMs and Match Stash, as well as some other finds here and there. Unfortunately, we have to fly home… I hope being back one day to Stockholm to see some more of it.

To save time and space in the logbook, we signed all caches with “Baltikum Tour 2018”. Thanks to all owners for hiding these caches and for the fun we had to find them!

Merci beaucoup pour cette cache ! 👍👍👍

infoA Mystery Cache is the “catch-all” of cache types, this form of cache can involve complicated puzzles you will first need to solve to determine the coordinates. The only commonality of this cache type is that the coordinates listed are not of the actual cache location but a general reference point, such as a nearby parking location. Due to the increasing creativity of geocaching this becomes the staging ground for new and unique challenges.
