BCP282 - Grotto Mountain

We started our trip to the top from the Alpine Club of Canada (the club doubles as a youth hostel) parking lot around 9:00 a.m. The 5 km plus hike to the summit cairn involved an elevation gain of over 4 300 feet from our parking.

The trip to the summit took 4hours using the NW route also known as the ACC trail (as described in Kane's scramble book - this would be my recommended route). The NW route is great as it affords a rather long but picturesque ridge walk to the summit.

We used the direct route on the return trip and we would not recommend this route due to the extremely loose rocky and pitchy nature of the terrain. There could be some route finding issues on this approach and brief periods of exposure. This route was a relatively slow go for us on the return taking three hours for the trip back to parking.

Our track log showed a round trip distance of just over 11 kilometres. Simply a great hike / scramble - TFTH.

infoA virtual cache is a cache that exists in a form of a location. Depending on the cache "hider," a virtual cache could be to answer a question about a location, an interesting spot, a task, etc. The reward for these caches is the location itself and sharing information about your visit.

Because of the nature of these geocaches, you must actually visit the location and acquire the coordinates there before you can post. In addition, although many locations are interesting, a virtual cache should be out of the ordinary enough to warrant logging a visit.

Virtuals are now considered waymarks on Waymarking.com.
