Found it Stumpy75 found Historic Caches of Osceola County Challenge

Saturday, July 14, 2018Michigan

I thought since this area is where I found some of my 1st caches, as pointed out by when I found them in the list below, that this cache would be appropriate for a milestone. I started geocaching as something to do in the mornings while at music festivals. The Dulcimer Festival in Evart is where someone 1st mentioned geocaching to me, and I looked it up, and ended up in this crazy hobby.

This cache was NOT uneventful though.

Since the water level in the river is low, I decided to walk on the sand at the rivers edge over to the cache area, and then cut into the woods. This worked out ok, until I turned into the woods, and had to cross a small depression between the sand and the bank. I stepped to the edge of the sand, and my right foot immediately went down up to my knee and continued to sink! I planted my left foot a little farther back, and it only went in up to my ankle. At this point, I knew what I was seeing. QUICKSAND!! Oh c%$p! I immediately sat down, as my footprints behind me were ok... Luckily, I had a walking stick, and used it to break the suction on my feet. I then retraced my steps back to the parking area and cleaned up the mess on my legs. I then started again towards the cache, this time, in the woods!

BTW, extending my walking stick to its full length of 5', I probed the soft area, and did not find a bottom! Scary!!

This was about on par with some of the other older caches in Osceola County, so I should not have been surprised... There have been some great caches in this area over the years..

Thanks for putting up the challenge cache for this county.

Everyone be safe out there, and don't walk on the sand down the shore. You never know when the only thing left of you might be your hat!

infoA Mystery Cache is the “catch-all” of cache types, this form of cache can involve complicated puzzles you will first need to solve to determine the coordinates. The only commonality of this cache type is that the coordinates listed are not of the actual cache location but a general reference point, such as a nearby parking location. Due to the increasing creativity of geocaching this becomes the staging ground for new and unique challenges.
