BCP418 Allsmoke Mountain

I had a wonderful hike today with three friends. We went to find a brass cap on Allsmoke Mountain, just a little southeast of Forgetmenot Ridge. We planned a route up an interesting ridge, starting from Ware Creek PRA on the East end of Gorge Creek Trail. We did not have any info on this route but did know there was not any formal trail. We really lucked out as various cow trails lead us directly to the base of the ridge we needed and other hikers had developed an informal but very reasonable trail almost to the top of the mountain. Even when we occasionally lost the trail navigation was easy though the open pine forest. Once we got to the top the views were outstanding and the cap was an easy find. After taking a bunch of photos we found a nice sheltered spot to eat a little lunch prior to a very high speed descent (sore knees tonight).

All and all a great day in the mountains with terrific company, made even better by seeing a large cougar on the drive in to the trailhead. I got a very fuzzy photo (it was still a little dark) before it moved into the woods. That is the first live one I have seen – only tracks before today.

Thanks for posting this cap ofth, it is located in a great spot!

infoA virtual cache is a cache that exists in a form of a location. Depending on the cache "hider," a virtual cache could be to answer a question about a location, an interesting spot, a task, etc. The reward for these caches is the location itself and sharing information about your visit.

Because of the nature of these geocaches, you must actually visit the location and acquire the coordinates there before you can post. In addition, although many locations are interesting, a virtual cache should be out of the ordinary enough to warrant logging a visit.

Virtuals are now considered waymarks on Waymarking.com.
