Our fifth cache of a six-cache day, and, after a torrential morning, we arrived at Caldicot Castle in bright sunshine. We basked in the shade of the lych gate as we made our calculations.
We had a pleasant stroll through the grounds, meeting several friendly dogs along the way. All was quiet at the cache site, but, as Simon rooted out the box, Elizabeth noted -- by a discarded pair of white jockey shorts in the bushes opposite -- that this secluded spot is not always so tranquil!
As we enjoyed the shady spot at the bench nearby whilst signing the log, we decided that today was the perfect summer's day: a good, heavy rain in the morning to wash the dust and pollen out of the air; a greyly overcast but dry mid-day with a light, cool breeze; and oblique sunshine in the late afternoon. Not too hot, not too wet. Just right!
Thanks for a call at this castle!
