#3515
Attended the event together with niknais_kaamis

The start was very promising. Somehow we immediately figured out the authorization code for the Wherigo and were one of the first at the lake . Jukis got her feet wet and after that delegated Prusak to do all the walking. After a while Prusak returned with the necessary information and we were ready to move forward. But for some reason the cartridge did not end correctly (meaning even after getting the info it was pointing to the final zone which should have been deactivated after displaying the info). It was very confusing and we wasted a lot of time figuring out that it is some sort of technical error .
Once we realized that we’re one of the few who was still at the lake we figured that there’s no way we can win this race. So we started to celebrate Julia’s (Jukis) Name’s Day . Meanwhile niknais_kaamis put the puzzle together and we got one more value but Prusak and Jukis entered the coordinates for the waypoints into the Garmin device (of course that was after we tried the gpx file from the QR code).
On our way to one of the waypoints we received a call: RobisTA&Co somehow ended up in a ditch and they needed help. They said that it’s pretty serious so we decided to get some reinforcements. As we approached the next task location we spotted several geo-cars and one of them was a jeep (just what we needed). DoctorZG&Co agreed to join us.
As we were approaching the coordinates of the crash that asiic had sent us we saw an ambulance leaving a police car. It looked very serious – one of the passengers was rushed to the hospital in Valmiera, let’s hope that she didn’t sustain any serious trauma. As to the minivan – it was almost on it’s side laying in a quite deep ditch. First we tried to get it out just by the force of 4WD jeep but that didn’t work. Thankfully Knagis arrived just in time with the hand winch. With this very handy tool we were able to quickly get the van out of the ditch and be on our way. Actually this was a great team building exercise – not only the passengers of 3 geo-cars + Knagis who came straight from Riga but also policemen and the neighborhood dog were involved the rescue operation .
After 2.5 hours when we successfully retrieved the van from a ditch we figures that there’s no way that we can manage to visit and the stages and get the necessary information in time. So we decided to split the remaining tasks between 3 cars.
In the end when we had gathered all the necessary info and niknais_kaamis had finished drawing the QR Code everybody got their phones out and tried to get the info from it but with no luck . Luckily BOR team was close by and also had finished drawing the QR Code and were willing to share the final coordinates. We had to drive 30+km to get to finish but luckily we got there just in time for the KaBOOM .
When we received an envelopes and possibility to continue the race and get 80-somthing FTFs, we said: „No, thank you!” and went straight home .

All and all it was a great event. Maybe the weather conditions were not perfect (3 weeks ago we were in this neighborhood and the roads were not so slippery).
We can see that the organizer have made an excellent job planning this route and creating the tasks. Of course there are some shortcomings, but who’s perfect …

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS AWSOME EVENT!

P.S. We still don’t understand why we needed the paper map, a pair of compasses and ruler …
