Sleepy_hollow and I set out at our normal bright and early time to tackle this well positioned cap. We arrived about an hour before sunrise and a chilly -6C, so the first section through the woods and blowdown was done with headlamps and lots of layers. We did quite well navigating in the dark. Things quickly brightened up and we were able to pick up a game trail that pretty much took us to the small outlier with some minor detours. The views were fantastic in all directions. The back half of the hike involved a few inches of snow that didn't pose any problems, but the temperature and slight breeze were creating a windchill of about -10C and colder. We quickly ascended the ridge and took the short stroll to GZ. We found an anchor bolt close to GZ so we knew the coords were good. We took apart the existing cairn and soon found the pristine cap. We rebuilt a much higher and sturdier cairn which I decided was to honour SH's 500th cap find. Way to go SH! The weather sure improved for the descent. Now that we could see clearly, we were able to avoid a lot of the earlier blowdown and stay on mostly trails all the way to the car. In all we covered 9.2km round trip and 700m of elevation gain. Thanks for the great company SH and congrats on the milestone!
For future seekers, Park at N50 41.553 W115 09.374 next to the orange "54" sign on the north side of the road. Head up the embankment to the left of the sign and find a survey marker post and pin at the wood's edge. A small game trail is nearby that will get you on your way.
Thanks for a great hike and cap OFTH.
