Found it RNKBerlin found Edinburgh's Cast Iron Heritage - Beginner

Thursday, 07 February 2019Southern Scotland, United Kingdom

Team RNKBerlin on a trip to England, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. Fully equipped for a few weeks of offline caching, thanks to GSAK, GDAK and OSM for Garmin and Android.

Oh, this one was a lot of fun. It all started with a short, but fateful dialogue back in Munich:

R: "I think I'll pack the OPO, too."

DocN: "Why would you want to bring that old thing?"

R: "It might come handy when we need a spare phone that's optimised for minimal battery consumption?"

DocN: ""

Well, it did come handy. R organised a list of police boxes in the city, and a bit of Perl and GPSBabel later, the OPO had them all. Add some Locus and the fabulous WhereYouGo player for Android, tell Locus to use proximity alerts for the boxes - and you're good to go. We managed to find 19 in just two days (on foot, of course), so that was nice.

Having found 15 yesterday, we decided to take a walk from our temporary HQ in Grassmarket to the GZ (and bag a nearby challenge cache), then walk back along the river and the Royal Mile.

The weather was fabulous, but it had rained in the morning, so R was in for some unexpectedly difficult climbing (rather, sliding, slipping, getting up, repeat *ad nauseam*). Doesn't matter. We found the cache, and it's a lovely box. The logbook is in good shape.

Overall, we love the idea, and we loved the long walks. A well deserved favourite point for this one. We took a backup of the cartridge in case we come back to Edinburgh, and find the time to hunt down the remaining boxes

And thus we found this cache, our find number 3403, on 07.02.2019 at 14:23. We would like to thank Au_and_U for placing and maintaining this cache.

infoA Wherigo geocache uses your Wherigo cartridge to lead you ultimately to the physical geocache location. The cartridges must reside at Wherigo.com. If a cartridge is used as a requirement to find a geocache, it is considered a Wherigo cache, regardless of whether it may also have a puzzle or multi-cache component.
