Found it colincactus found Cippenham Moat (a.k.a. Slough's first cache)

Monday, August 19, 2013Southern England, United Kingdom

Slough's first cache and a bit of landmark for us as its the 1500th cache that we've found.

Recently we've been going around picking up old caches to fill in the gaps in our Jasmer grid. This one was placed in June 2005 and was an empty slot for us. Very surprising to find that Slough didn't have any caches before 2005.

I'd taken a day off work today to do some caching with my son The Bobcat. We had a puzzling start here as he mistakenly directed me to the second set of co-ordinates. Confusingly there's a supermaket there as well (but its a Tesco rather than an Asda).

We parked up, got out, looked around and quickly realised our mistake. Not to worry - can we walk there? No its 2km away. We had to laugh that we'd missed the starting co-ordinates by so much.

So we relocated to Cippenham and the correct supermarket. We quickly found the information, did the calculations and set off to get the cache. It took us a couple of minutes to find it (Bobcat got this one). Amazing that such a big cache can survive unmuggled here. We signed the log and took the spoon.

While we were signing the log a gardener on a small tractor had been cutting the grass in the opposite direction. By the time we'd finished he'd started his return journey, so we quickly replaced everything and re-hid the cache. We took a picture of the castle from the top of the bund before we left.

infoA Mystery Cache is the “catch-all” of cache types, this form of cache can involve complicated puzzles you will first need to solve to determine the coordinates. The only commonality of this cache type is that the coordinates listed are not of the actual cache location but a general reference point, such as a nearby parking location. Due to the increasing creativity of geocaching this becomes the staging ground for new and unique challenges.
