BCP019 - Athabasca Glacier (Found)

This cap was on my high priority list from when I first heard about the original brass cap cache. It was a couple weeks after our first hike up to this location for the wilcox cap cache, so I was all uppity about having missed something cool. Then of course GC.com smashed my favourite brasscap cache, so it became less of a priority.

Seems our misadventure last time was something the family wanted to do again though, so we hoofed it up the trail again this year!

Forest fire smoke obscures all vision, so no real clue if we have clouds or smoke. We get a slight drizzle for 5 min at the start, nice and refreshing, free air conditioning, then manage the rest of the hike to the cap without incident. (unless you count 15 minutes of fruitless searching an incident.) In the end I'm standing on a ridge surveying left/right, only to discover that my foot is 2" from the cap!!! woot woot shouts of joy. Everyone else was busily checking out the cool view nearby (barely visible through the smoke).

About 15 minutes of the route back it started to rain, then to pour. We hadnt brought much for rain gear, so the entire hike down was a soaking mess. The other 3 are much faster at downhill than i am, so ditched me in their wake. Luckily the dog came back to keep me company on the trudge down :) Another 5 hour trek i think but i REALLY wanted to find this cap :)

infoA Mystery Cache is the “catch-all” of cache types, this form of cache can involve complicated puzzles you will first need to solve to determine the coordinates. The only commonality of this cache type is that the coordinates listed are not of the actual cache location but a general reference point, such as a nearby parking location. Due to the increasing creativity of geocaching this becomes the staging ground for new and unique challenges.
