Requiem for a Cap

This is a bittersweet log to write.

Well, it's mostly bitter actually and it's only sweet in the sense that, technically speaking anyway, I did find the cap.

The problem though is that no one else will, ever again, because the cap really no longer exists as a "cap" anymore.

There's a LOT of construction going on in Grande Cache these days. The highway is being resurfaced, and they're upgrading sidewalks around town and more specifically right at the cap site. It's pretty easy to guess where I'm going with this, right?

I parked at the A&W about 30m away from the cap, expecting a quick find, a few snaps and to be on my way. What I found instead was the actual cap out of the ground attached to its metal host pole lying with some other refuse beside the work site. You'll see in the attached photos that it's the cap alright, well, half of it anyway. The inscribed number matches the photos of the cap taken by a couple of other previous finders but I've covered up the numbers, just out of habit. And respect for the dead?

Unless I'm mistaken (I hope I am, but I'm doubting it) this one is toast. Sorry to break the news.

In lieu of flowers, please spend your energy on finding other brass caps. It's what BCP723 would have wanted.

infoA Mystery Cache is the “catch-all” of cache types, this form of cache can involve complicated puzzles you will first need to solve to determine the coordinates. The only commonality of this cache type is that the coordinates listed are not of the actual cache location but a general reference point, such as a nearby parking location. Due to the increasing creativity of geocaching this becomes the staging ground for new and unique challenges.
