Well it's been 7 years since this cap was published and there hasn't been a single log. No founds, no DNFs, not even a simple note. Well I was determined to rectify that on this trip. We had to take the long way into La Crete today as the La Crete ferry was closed due to high water on the Peace River. We had the additional concern due to the uncontrolled Wilson Prairie fire that was burning just SE of LA Crete. The command post for the fire was actually in La Crete and some of the roads were being closed. It turned out that the fire did no impact our trip at all. We arrived at La Crete and then to GZ. There were no tell tale marker posts of holes, so I pulled out the cheap metal detector. This was the first time it helped me find something that I didn't have to dig up. I ended up hitting the elevated cap post with the coil. How did I not notice that??? In any event, we found the cap post but the cap was not present. Well at least we found something worthy of a note. I'm not sure if finding a capless post (that use to have a cap as opposed to stakes or pins) should be kept active or not. I'll leave it t OFTH to make that call. As we found the cap post before any decision was made and other cap posts have remained as active caps with finds (Spruce Grove 2), I'm logging this one as a find assuming the CO is OK with that. It was great to see the area nonetheless. In any event, an interesting afternoon and our first time in La Crete. By the way, rumour has it that a prolific Calgary cacher once taught school in this area. Thanks for the cap OFTH!

infoA virtual cache is a cache that exists in a form of a location. Depending on the cache "hider," a virtual cache could be to answer a question about a location, an interesting spot, a task, etc. The reward for these caches is the location itself and sharing information about your visit.

Because of the nature of these geocaches, you must actually visit the location and acquire the coordinates there before you can post. In addition, although many locations are interesting, a virtual cache should be out of the ordinary enough to warrant logging a visit.

Virtuals are now considered waymarks on Waymarking.com.
