BCP705 - Coliseum Mountain
Mr. behmSquad and I made the trip out to Nordegg plenty early this morning to hit the trail at sunrise. We took the tourist route up which has a number of gentle switchbacks. After arriving at the first major viewpoint, we were met with strong icy cold winds which continued for the duration of our ridge walk.
We headed high from the Coliseum Viewpoint cache and enjoyed a fine ridge walk despite the breeze. The pristine cap was free of any snow and is situated at an amazing viewpoint. Excellent choice OFTH!
We worked our way down the west ridge from the cap and headed over to the west summit. Mr. behmSquad found the cache and cap on the west summit. We headed down through the very challenging cliff bands which were made significantly more difficult by the steeply pitched rock hard snow cover. Oh well, nothing like a little challenge as long as you don't go for an involuntary glissade off the side of the cliff.
The trip down the ridge was quite pleasant with the soft snow allowing for speedy travel. We quickly found a nice ammo cache on the way down. Overall a little over 13 km round trip and a few hundred meters of elevation, making for a nice walk in the park! Thanks OFTH for the well positioned cap placement.
