Well, what a great trip Takin it Easy and I had today walking to this cap. We set out this AM with some worries about access to the cap, but were delighted to find a nicely maintained trail that started from Hwy 1X just on the north end of the Bow River Bridge. It ran along the north side of the river on top of the cliffs all the way to the cap. There were a couple of options so we kept closer to the river on the way out which was absolutely beautiful with never ending views along the river but required more up and down with a few tricky climbs. On the way back we stayed on a higher trail that avoided all those places at the cost of fewer views. The return distance was approximately 8.8 kms. You also might be able to access the dam from Nakoda Lodge but that would require stopping there and getting permission to cross the reserve. Our route seemed to be located on a strip of non reserve land by the river.

Our only bit of trouble occurred when we were passing under a power transmission line and one of those big orange wire marker cones fell off and flattened TiE. I ran back to him and was mightily relieved to find him slightly flat, but essentially undamaged. So, I picked him up shook him off and he was as good as new. Check out the photos if you don't believe this story, photos never lie!

Anyhow, this is a wonderful, easy hike and we highly recommend it to all cappers and anybody else who likes hiking surrounded by beautiful views, thanks for posting this survey marker ofth..

infoA virtual cache is a cache that exists in a form of a location. Depending on the cache "hider," a virtual cache could be to answer a question about a location, an interesting spot, a task, etc. The reward for these caches is the location itself and sharing information about your visit.

Because of the nature of these geocaches, you must actually visit the location and acquire the coordinates there before you can post. In addition, although many locations are interesting, a virtual cache should be out of the ordinary enough to warrant logging a visit.

Virtuals are now considered waymarks on Waymarking.com.
