Caching as a team this afternoon doing this series with Bobcat, IcecoldUk, RichieCactus and our new recruit Lamoutarde. We were signing the logs as Team Bricl to save time.
Well we found the first stage, got everything out and looked at what we had. I had a theory - we worked it through and the northing looked perfect. Then on to the westing. Everything looked right there too apart from one digit which seemed to put the cache too far away.
We wrestled with it for half an hour trying to come up with something better. By now the wind had got up, the morning sun had gone, and we were getting cold. Whose stupid idea was it to come out in shorts and T-shirts. I decided that the best thing to do would be to try to solve it later in the pub. We each took notes independently to make sure we didn't make any errors, and we also took a few photos of them.
We were a bit dejected but wanted to carry on with the rest of the series. After another cache we stopped for lunch and decided to have another go at solving it. It's amazing how much easier things appear when you're warmer and have eaten some food. Or maybe it's simply that this puzzle is simpler when written down. Whatever the reason, this time I found the right approach. Ice worked through them all and this time it gave co-ordinates that were much more sensible.
We continued on to get the final. It took a few minutes of searching. I'd been scrabbling around in the wrong place nearby but then Lamoutarde pointed out somewhere I hadn't looked. Of course the cache was there so a find for him I think.
Oh this is a cache-and-a-half isn't it! And surely a puzzle rather than a multi? A definite favourite point from me.
I haven't given my VICE acronym yet so here's one which seems appropriate for this puzzle
What is VICE?
- VICE Is Caching Excellence
- I told you.
So "VICE is caching excellence" is caching excellence
- Yep and what is VICE?
OK I get the idea.
