BCP499 - Hunter Valley
TiE and I slept in this morning with a late 6:00 am start. We enjoyed the familiar scenery of the Forestry Trunk (through this morning's heavy fog) from Hwy. 1A north to the Hunter Valley Road exit. The Hunter Valley Road was in surprisingly good shape and we were able to find an open gated forestry logging road road that took us significantly closer to the cap than we had planned.
The hike to the cap was at first through a short section of clear cut, through forest that had perhaps been a designated burn area, and the last few metres up an ATV trail to the cap site. Though things were especially foggy on the hike, there was no rain until we arrived back at the truck - great stuff!
The cap site is pretty much as advertised - on a prominent hill top, AGL, but there is no sign of a cairn as mentioned in the cap particulars. The cap site appears to have pretty decent sight lines, though one couldn't really tell for sure with the fog. Our round trip track log was a short 1.73 km with a little less than 300 metres of elevation. What a great spot - a little off the beaten track and the perfect spot for some adventure. Thanks OFTH for this fine cap listing, congrats on the new arrival, and thanks to TiE for the terrific company on the trail - an amazing day despite the weather on the Forestry Trunk!
