Found it BeccaDay found Wisconsin Roadside Weirdness Challenge

Sunday, May 20, 2012Wisconsin

We actually signed the log on this cache on 1/15/12 but we didn't actually qualify until today. What an adventure! This challenge took us a little over a year to complete. I don't think that's too bad considering the fact that I don't think we had a single find on the WI Oddities list when the cache was published and it first caught my eye. If we were heading to a different part of the state I'd consult the Oddities list and see if we could squeeze in a stop to see some weirdness. And one of the great things about completing this challenge was that we did it as a family. I believe there were a few where it was just me and the kids but most of them we did all together. We really enjoyed these stops and it's almost a shame to put this one to rest. I think I'll still keep an eye on the list and see if we can visit the other locations. In fact, funnily enough, we still haven't even been to the one that's closest to our house! You can bet that we're going to visit, just haven't had a chance yet. I had actually miscounted and figured we'd be getting that one last but it turns out we qualify after all.

We enjoyed every single one of these spots and it's very hard to pick a favorite so I'll just mention a few. The Lumberjack Totems had caught my eye since I first started caching because they're near our land "up nort" and we'd been meaning to go. That one was great fun! We brought my parents and the kid's great-grandma along to Dr. Evermore and Lady Eleanor and we all had such a blast wandering around among all of the sculptures! We stopped at the Trolling Through Mount Horeb on our way out west and had so much fun with our first whereigo. We had already fallen in love with that Scandinavian city but had never cached there. My husband picked up a Growler at the nearby brewpub "The Grumpy Troll" and we brought it along to our family in Nebraska. The story at The Sovereign State of Winneconne was hilarious! And finally, the whole family loved wandering around Butte des Mortes Hardware Store. We could hardly tear the children away from there when it was time to go. The final location was a blast too!

As it turns out, this is going to be my 1000th cache find. And what a great cache for a milestone! As I said, we had such a great time completing this challenge! Thank you to Trekkin' and birdin' for creating it and for introducing us to all these great spots!

1000 finds!

infoA Mystery Cache is the “catch-all” of cache types, this form of cache can involve complicated puzzles you will first need to solve to determine the coordinates. The only commonality of this cache type is that the coordinates listed are not of the actual cache location but a general reference point, such as a nearby parking location. Due to the increasing creativity of geocaching this becomes the staging ground for new and unique challenges.
