#5053 found @ 17:20:00, cache 14 of 14 today, geostreak Day #292.
I had a grand day out caching with Kitty!! and Mr Crow around Cliffe and Cliffe Woods today, plus going for a couple of high DT grid-fillers elsewhere in Kent. We signed all the caches as Team CCK or CCK to save space.
I've been trying to complete my DT grid this year, and this cache seemed like a great candidate for another missing combo, since I don't climb trees and don't own a boat. However, both Kitty and I have just acquired some new waders which needed christening, so when I suggested this as the finale to our day out in Kent, they readily agreed.
Once near GZ, Kitty and I donned our gear and then found a couple of hefty sticks to use to plumb the depths and keep us upright during our waddle over to the right spot. Initially Kitty wanted to head for the thicket, but I persuaded here that was the wrong direction and spotted the cache from about half way from the bank. Great - we could see what we were aiming at, now could we get there and back without ending up flat on our faces, caked in mud, with foul-smelling water inside our waders...?
On arrival at the right place, Kitty went for the retrieval, only to find the inner pot stuck fast in the outer pot. Some swearing, a lot of shaking and a broken pen lid later (used to prize it out), and we had something we could sign. I did the deed and then we gingerly waded back to dry land, thankfully avoiding the hidden tree roots and any embarrassment from tripping over them.
We peeled off the neoprene and then it was high-fives all round! What fun!
Triumphant, we headed off to the nearby pub to kill some time before tackling the Dartford Crossing, and celebrate filling another DT square with dinner and a pint. The perfect end to a perfect day's caching. Have a fave (I'd give you two if I could).
