Webcam Photo Taken The Spindoctors took a webcam photo at Castaway Webcam

Wednesday, November 18, 2009Fiji

Coming to Castaway Island was a process of elimination that began twelve months ago with us vowing to take an island holiday doing 'nothing'. That meant staying in the one location and relaxing as much as possible. Given that we wanted to take Zac we decided on Fiji as it has a great reputation for its love of children.

A few weeks back and forward with the travel agent - and a peak at Geocaching.com - convinced us that the Mamanuca Islands and in particular Castaway Island was the place to go.

We're glad we made the choice. We had a wonderful time relaxing and partaking in a number of fun activities. Zac (20 months old) had a great time with us and the babysitters, who are fantastic.

It wasn't until our last full day that we actually got our webcam picture. A big thanks to our brother (Team Xesist) in Melbourne for taking the screen grab for us.

Castaway Island is such a fantastic place to stay, particularly for families with children of all ages. I recommend it highly, along with this fun webcam cache - pity there isn't a cache on the top of the hill nearby, which I climbed.

We look to visiting again in the near future.

infoA Webcam "cache" are caches that use existing web cameras placed by individuals or agencies that monitor various areas like parks or road conditions. The idea is to get yourself in front of the camera to log your visit. The challenging part, however, it that you need to call a friend to look up the web site that displays the camera shot. You will need to have them to save the picture to log the cache. You could also use your wireless modem or cell phoneand save the image yourself on your laptop. Webcam caches are now in the Web Camera category on Waymarking.com
