The day had been most enjoyable to this point with a winding drive up the Forestry Trunk road to Nordegg. The scenery and wildlife combined with that sense of remoteness were much appreciated, finding the occasional cache only added to the experience. On the journey north and to the cap site, I had encountered a medium size black bear, a very impressive 10 pt buck, a pair of wild horses and an unbelievable number of Whiskey Jacks.

Getting up close to the cap required a sense of adventure even with intel on potential routes provided by Sleepy Hollow. As luck would have it, the gate on the industry road accessed through the Nordegg industrial area, was wide open today. That was all the invitation needed and eventually got me to within a few hundred meters of the cap, although not before an aborted attempt to hike in, which had me going on a very stiff climb up a quad trail, only to find that the topo maps in my GPS had led me astray. I beat a hasty retreat to the van and continued along the road instead and eventually got where I needed to be .
The cap is well marked, elevated and in terrific shape.
