There was no sign of a survey marker anywhere near the posted coordinates when we arrived at this quiet neighbourhood park just before noon today. After scuffing our feet around a bit, checking the sidewalks and half-heartedly digging at a nearby hole in the ground, we decided to take a lunch break and enjoy a picnic in the park.

After lunch, Mr. GeoK pulled out all the stops - armed with trowel and magnetic compass, he systematically checked a 3 meter radius around the spot where our GPSr zero'd out. Sure enough, the compass did the trick and after digging down a couple inches through the grass and dirt, we find a nice old brass cap! E-mail already sent. This was a good hunt.

infoA virtual cache is a cache that exists in a form of a location. Depending on the cache "hider," a virtual cache could be to answer a question about a location, an interesting spot, a task, etc. The reward for these caches is the location itself and sharing information about your visit.

Because of the nature of these geocaches, you must actually visit the location and acquire the coordinates there before you can post. In addition, although many locations are interesting, a virtual cache should be out of the ordinary enough to warrant logging a visit.

Virtuals are now considered waymarks on Waymarking.com.
