#3475 - Found Sunday, 12 March 2017 at 02:56 PM

This was my 2nd of 2 finds for this cache run.

My son and I haven't had much time to cache together and since he's heading off to college soon we decided to put an extra effort into finding time together while we can.

When this was first published I was actively working on the SPACE series. I saw the puzzle which was reminiscent of games I'd played as a teen and figured this might be one of the few puzzles in the series that I could actually solve. I worked on it for a bit and with the exception of one minor hiccup, solved it rather quickly. Per the logs, I think I was actually 2TS. It has taken me until today to actually head out this way to make the grab and I'm sorry I waited so long. The day was cold, the path muddy and snow covered, and the hike loads of fun. Absolutely beautiful area and one we will return to for Hale Bopp (which we wanted to grab today but couldn't find in the limited time we had).

Took about 5 minutes to find stage 1. After opening the cache I had a sinking sensation as I'd forgotten that there was a field puzzle component. Fortunately, I had kept detailed notes which were transferred to my GPS and I was able to get the info needed to figure out the coords for the final. We hiked over there where my son made the find. As an added bonus, 3 pathtags that I didn't possess were in the container. All in all, an absolutely perfect cache.

Caches like this are the reason I love this activity so much. This one earns a favorite and would get multiple if that were possible.

infoA Mystery Cache is the “catch-all” of cache types, this form of cache can involve complicated puzzles you will first need to solve to determine the coordinates. The only commonality of this cache type is that the coordinates listed are not of the actual cache location but a general reference point, such as a nearby parking location. Due to the increasing creativity of geocaching this becomes the staging ground for new and unique challenges.
