Attended sandlanders attended Snowshoeing and Geocaching

Saturday, March 2, 2013Wisconsin

We were really excited when the notice for this event came out. We had never been on snowshoes before, and this would be an opportunity for us to take advantage of the checkout availability of the snowshoes at the main office. We had also never done the original Ranger Rick caches when they had first come out, so now we could find both the new ones and the old ones today.

Found a parking spot at the end of the lot, strapped on the shoes, heard a bit about what we would be doing from our hosts, then headed out. We usually brought up the rear, but we made it to each cache before the logbook and the stamp had been packed away and everyone had moved on. Put on a couple of miles finding all the caches, then put on a few pounds back at the office sampling all the goodies that had been provided for the post-hike.

Today was a great day to be outdoors in the sun enjoying the snowpack that has allowed for recreational activities this winter. We'd like to thank Buckhorn Park and the people who work there, the Friends of Buckhorn group who purchased the snowshoes for park user use, the fellow cachers who helped us get both in and out of the snowshoes and those who helped Mr. S off the ground when he took a tumble, and those who did the finding of the containers today. Special thanks go out to our event hosts Sheri and Heather for all of the work they have done setting up these caches and the trail, and for inviting all of us to join them in their Buckhorn "playground" on this wonderful later winter day!

We're here!
