This was our very first cache! My wife got a GPS for her birthday, so the kids and I borrowed it from her to go searching for this cache while we were in town visiting my parents (I grew up in Newport).
When we got to the site there were four cars parked there, three of them with people in them. So it was kind of hard to be discreet. After a lot of searching in not quite the right place, we were ready to give up. However after all but one person left, we did a more thorough search and found it. We discreetly took it back to our truck (in a pack) to look through the booty.
Since there were no log entries on this page we thought we were the first to find it, but in the log in the cache, someone found it yesterday. It looked like they were supposed to take the Book Nook sticker, but since we were almost first, we took it. My daughter really liked the painted rocks, and so we took the ladybug. We also took the flashlight since we wanted to make room for a dinosaur. We also left a Team Rogue pin (from a project at work - Rogue was the project name for one of HP's inkjet printers). And finally we left a polished agate. My mom found this agate on Agate Beach many years ago, and polished it in her rock tumbler. Agate Beach is the beach north of Jump Off Joe.
I collect old Newport postcards, and I will post my old postcards of Jump Off Joe. I also took a picture of the kids near Jump Off Joe, which I will post when I get home.
You did a fantastic job on the cache description - it was like reading a story! You must have done some serious research!
Thank you for enabling a fantastic first geocaching experience! Now the kids are talking about putting together a cache of our own!
