Meet Vito, patient #344 in our ongoing study of the spread of the zombie plague via geocaching. Vito was a CNC machinist who specialized in creating metal tools by using the precision machinery. Vito really really loved pizza, and he considered himself a pizza connoisseur and blogged about his pizza experiences. In fact, pizza restaurants were abuzz when Vito walked in the door, and treated him like a food critic that could make or break their business. He loved geocaching, and often hosted events at pizza parlors. He was extremely sociable and considered his fellow geocachers part of his family.
We believe that Vito contracted the plague from Lance, patient #338 in our plague. Lance was a welder and was making a special mystery cache that required precision parts. Lance knew Vito from Vito’s pizza events, and knew that Vito was a CNC machinist. He went to Vito and asked him if he would do him a favor and create the part for his geocache. While Lance was waiting for the part to be made, he began to sweat and get dizzy and show symptoms of the plague, which he had contracted a few days before. Vito made the part and brought it out to the waiting Lance, who gave him an appreciative hug. This is how Vito became infected with the plague. The two made plans to get a new cache together in a few weeks, but it seems as if they both had other things on their mind by the time date rolled around: brains.
This travel bug is part of a larger study to take a closer look at how the zombie plague might propagate if the primary vector for spreading the disease was geocaching. Please visit the following website for further details, and a visualization of how the disease has propagated thus far based on the movement and discovery of this and other infected Zombie travel bugs:
