My Ordeal medalion from my induction to the Order of the Arrow.
The Ordeal consists of: a day of silence and solitude, a day of fasting, and a day of service. It is supposed to be a time of reflection: learning about yourself and growing.
Everyone who is tapped out to join OA must go through the Ordeal-though the Ordeal is not done the same everywhere.
For my Ordeal, we did all three days as one, starting the night I was tapped out. Me and the other scouts that were tapped out went off and spent the night in the woods under the stars, no tents. Then the next day we worked around the camp in silence, cleaning up and getting ready for winter. All we had for food was three bagels, one for breakfast, one for lunch, and one for dinner. Then that night was the Ordeal ceremony welcoming us into OA.

Hello and Greetings from two austrian girl scouts! Thank you for sharing your Order of the Arrow Story with us. It's really interesting to learn about it. In Austria we don't have such a "Order of the Arrow" task at the scouts. There is something different but someway similar, it is called "Die Wache" ( The Watch). Girl and boy scouts in the age of 16 to 21 years pass it, if they want to. Usually the older ones (20 - 21) choose to do it. The ranger and rover squad (in german "Rotte") host a camp somewhere in the woods. The candidates who want to absolve "Die Wache" will be set out in to the woods one by one. There they think about there future life and stay the whole night or at least some hours. Later or in the morning they walk to the camp where the other members of the squad will welcome them.
