De honden die je op de bijhorende sleutelhanger ziet zijn onze drie Saarlooswolfhonden. Aangezien het ras ontstaan is uit een kruising van de Oud duitse herder en een wolf, leek het ons leuk om onze hondjes eens tot in Yellowstone National Park te laten reizen. Als ze eenmaal daar geraakt zijn mogen ze terug onze kant op komen zodat we ze een nieuwe reis kunnen laten maken.

The dogs on the corresponding keyhanger are our three Saarloos Woldogs. Since the breed originated from a cross between the Old german shepherd and a wolf, it seemed like a good idea for our dogs to travel to Yellowstone National Park. Once they got there, they can come back in our direction so we can send them on a new trip.

About This Item

De saarlooswolfhond is van oorsprong een kruising tussen de oud duitse herder en een europese wolf. Het doel van dit ras was om er werkhonden van te maken door de werklust van de Duitse herder te combineren met het grotere uithoudingsvermogen van de wolf. Echter door de schuwheid van dit ras bleken ze hier niet voor geschikt. Ze werden later nog ingezet als reddingshond en blindegeleide hond, maar tegenwoordig zijn het voornamelijk "sofa-wolven". The saarlooswolfhond  by origin is a crossbreed between the old german shepherd and a European wolf. The goal of this breed was to create working dogs by combining the will to work of the German shepherd with the greater endurance of the wolf. However, by the shyness this breed they appeared not to be suitable. Later on they were used as a rescue and blind guide dogs, but nowadays they are mostly "couch-wolves."     Found this in the very first cache we found that day ... will hold him for a short while, but will pass him along when we visit Iowa next month to help the oldest move into the dorm for her freshman year. While we're holding him, perhaps we'll get the youngest to do some more research on this breed as we've never heard of it. Thanks, and don't worry, he's in good hands.
