Miasto na prawach powiatu w województwie kujawsko-pomorskim położone na prawym brzegu Wisły zamieszkałe przez blisko 100 tyś mieszkańców.
Miasto ciągnie się w kierunku południkowym ponad 12,5 km, w kierunku równoleżnikowym tylko 6,2 km.
Na południe od ujścia Osy wznosi się Kępa Forteczna (86,1 m n.p.m.), zaś na południe od niej – Kępa Strzemięcińska (79,3 m n.p.m.). Grudziądz leży na 835 km biegu Wisły.
Pierwsze wzmianki o mieście pochodzą z roku 1065. Prawa miejskie Grudziądz otrzymał 18 czerwca 1291 r. z rąk mistrza pruskiego Szpitala Marii Panny Zakonu Niemieckiego w Jerozolimie Brata Meinharda z Querfuertu.
Kiedyś siedziba Centrum Wyszkolenia Kawalerii Polskiej. Miejsce powstania Szkoły Orląt przeniesionej później do Dęblina.
