To visit the National Forests of the United States and have its travels document by being photographed with National Forest signs: Now Entering... Now Leaving... Welcome To… historic and informational signs, campgrounds, basically any sign with the name of the National Forest on will do. Additional pictures with lookout or scenic observation towers, forest headquarters, ranger stations, Smokey the Bear fire danger level signs and especially of scenic views would also be appreciated. While transiting areas without National Forests other parts of the National Park System or state forests and parks would make for acceptable stopping points but please keep in mind the goal is to visit National Forests.
Prior to life as a travel bug Fire Lookout Tower Hinge worked for the US Forest Service. It performed hinge duties on a fire lookout tower at BM (Benchmark) Hill in the Clearwater National Forest. The tower was used as a fire lookout station but also served as benchmark RY1025. Today little remains of the tower besides some cement footings and a collection of rusting hardware. 2_UP_Geologists and I recovered Hinge while exploring BM Hill on our 2005 expedition to Goat Lake.
