To spread the knowledge about the beatyful Islands of Åland round the whole world and to visit as many islands as possible!
The Åland Islands, or Åland, is an autonomous demilitarised, swedish speaking region of Finland, consisting of about 6500 small islands in a great archepelago.
Four things typical for Åland Islands:
1. The midsummer pole: with lot of colors that varies between villages and many details, each detail with it's own meaning.
2. The golden red deer: a feature on the coat of arms. Before the islands bacame autonomous it wore a collar round the neck.
3. The ship: As a nation of islands, the ships were mandatory. The ship owner Gustaf Erikson became one of the most famous in the world during the 1800s.
4. The flag: consisting of three colors, red, yellow and blue. It's the swedish flag with a red cross, symbolizing Finland.
Once you pick up this travelbug, please have it at least visit every cache you do (even if it is not actively with you), until you drop it off at its next destination. This will allow the TB to not only rack up miles, but also let me know that it has not gone missing. It would be nice to see som pictures from the places it visits!
