About This Item

Square Twiddlestix

About Hoberman Twiddlestix

Twiddlestix™ are kinetic keychains that change shape continuously as you turn a small knob on the side.

It's a keychain-size Hoberman invention, using Chuck Hoberman's patented unfolding technology!

About Chuck Hoberman

Chuck Hoberman is the inventor of “Unfolding Structures” – objects that transform their size and shape. His unique folding methods have been developed for uses ranging from miniature surgical tools to retractable stadium roofs.

His work has been exhibited all over the world: The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Museo Interactive Mirador in Santiago (Chile), on board Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines’ The Explorer of the Seas (currently one of the world’s largest cruise ships), and at the futuristic Mycal Otaru Bay center in northern Japan. Recent projects include a retractable dome for the World’s Fair EXPO 2000 in Hanover, Germany, a 40 foot high expanding helicoid at Discovery World, Pier Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and the Hoberman Arch, a 70 foot diameter unfurling “curtain” for the Olympic Medals Plaza for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. The Olympic Arch is Hoberman’s highest-profile project to date.

Hoberman’s other recent and ongoing projects include the design and production of toys – including the award-winning Hoberman Sphere® and Gro-bots construction sets – and tents, emergency shelters, folding houses, and portable theatres, all of which unfold and expand according to his patented technology.

With a Bachelor’s degree in sculpture from Cooper Union and a Master’s degree in Engineering from Columbia University, Hoberman’s background has helped him combine artistic and scientific considerations into his work in a most unique way. A Hoberman object is at once both a structure and a mechanism; both a beautiful sculpture and a demonstration of complex geometric principles.

Hoberman won the Chrysler Award for Innovation and Design in 1997, and last year was a Product Design Finalist for the Smithsonian National Design Award.
