Current Goal

Daphnia is an Irish Dolphin. She swam out of the Shannon Estuary all the way around the coast, passing beautiful beaches in Cornwall, the White Cliffs of Dover and the big metropolis of London, before ending up in Wells-next-the-Sea. She has enjoyed her time off the shore of Norfolk but is now ready to return to the Emerald Isle. Her progress will be monitored by children visiting Wells Field Studies Centre.

Daphnia Dolphin had been staying with her new friends for a couple of weeks and she really loved being looked after by Freya and Anya who gave her lots of cuddles, but every night when she closed her eyes to go to sleep Daphnia would dream of Ireland.

One night Dapnia Dolphin closed her eyes extra specially tight and made a BIG wish. When she woke up the next morning Daphnia was so surprised! She was actually back in Ireland. Daphnia was so excited and happy. She soon made some new seal friends that lived near her new home at Abankula Seal Cliffs. Maybe one day soon she would make it back to Shannon, afterall it wasn't so far away now.

Good luck on your journey Daphnia Dolphin. Lots of love from Freya, Anya and friedagaric xxx

  • At the duckpond We had planned to take Daphnia to the Noble house cache at Wells when we picked her up but on reading her mission back at home we realised we would be taking her right back to where she came from. Unfortunately there are no other coastal caches that we haven't visited, large enough for her to fit so we left her at Salhouse and spotted these little ones on the tour.
  • At the duckpond Where's breakfast?

Found her high and dry just east of Norwich so decided to take her home to the north Norfolk coast only to discover that was where she'd come from. We'll try to find a new place for her to visit soon and get a picture or two for you.

We went out today on the bus from Norwich. First to Cromer where we found one cache at the site of an old railway "Steps up to High". From there we took another bus to Mundesley then walked over to Paston and the corner of the gas terminal at Bacton. Here we found our second cache of the day, "Three Sheets to the Wind". We then walked along the clifftop back into Mundesley to find cache number three "Alright buoy". A couple of miles walk through caravan sites saw us at "Surf's Up" cache, where we came upon your dolphin Daphnia. We've taken Daphnia on the bus back to Norwich where she'll spend a few days in the warm. We'll drop her off at another cache as soon as possible hopefully with a photo.

Regards from Maureen and Bernard

Daphnia the Dolphin was yearning to depart on her travels to the Emerald Isle. Decided this was the spot for her release on a cold morning. Said our goodbyes, turned and with a tear in my eyes (or was it the cold wind?) we went our separate ways.

  • Daphnia looks longingly out to sea and dreams...
  • The monster waves a sad farewell to a new friend
Grab It (Not from a Cache) 4/3/2008 The Black Monster (aka fluffy) grabbed it   Visit Log

Rescued from a waterless cache, one stranded dolphin. Nothing to eat, nowhere to swim. Think she likes me but she hasn't actually said so! Now she shares everything in my life.. my water bowl and food (fishy biscuits). I've found a true friend. If only she weren't so obsessed with swimming and what she calls the 'Emerald Isle' and if only I could keep up with her!
I'll be sad to see her go to oceans new in a day or two 😟

  • Daphnia and Fluffy enjoy a meal together.
  • THe Black Monster with Daphnia..such good friends!
