I have lived on the islands all my life and want to take flight around the world. I am asking that you take me with you on your next adventure and if you can, please take pictures of me along the way. My parents (The Byrds) wish they could travel around the world and experience the different cultures. However, they have to stay on the home front and make some $$$. They are allowing me to go so I can tell them all about it when I get back to Texas. (They visit Maui once a year so that was where my adventure started.)
The Bird of Paradise has a large orange, blue, red and white blossom that resembles the plumage of an exotic bird. In Hawaii you see it year round and it is an accepted and loved part of island traditions; but it's not a native, it hails from South Africa and get this, it's closest botanical relative is a banana! No large tropical bouquet is complete without it! It's also know as Mandela's gold Strelitzia Reginae and the Crane Flower but no name is as flattering as Bird of Paradise!
