Please remember that bikers have just as much right as anyone else with less protection! Check your mirrors before changing lanes and look both ways when making a turn. There are many bikes on the road and we should be alert at all times.

Motorcyclists must remember they have an equal share of safety responsibility on the road. Over two-thirds of car-motorcycle crashes are caused by drivers of other motor vehicles, not by motorcyclists. The other driver either does not see the oncoming motorcyclist at all, or does not see the motorcyclist in time to avoid a crash. So, riders should always operate their motorcycles in a defensive manner, within the rules of the road, and constantly be prepared to take evasive action if necessary. Motorcyclists should be attired with proper protective riding apparel, including a DOT-rated motorcycle safety helmet.

About This Item

On August 12, 2008, Tod was riding a motorcycle when he was killed in an accident caused by a left turning vehicle. Tod was the third member of Team Rod & Tod w/KAboom. This coin is released in his memory and in memory of all motorcyclists killed on the road.

    I couldn't resist picking up this bug from the meet and eat. Too often I've ridden in a car with someone when a motorcycle zipped carelessly between us and another car. Then my driver would inadvertently make some remark about "those motorcycles." I usually reply that it is only a few who ride that way. Then I mention some of my experiences with cars not respecting my right-of-way.
