An inuksuk is a stone landmark or cairn used by the natives of the Arctic region of North America. Inuksuk have been used for navigation, as a point of reference, a marker for hunting grounds, or as a food cache. The word inuksuk means "something which acts for or performs the function of a person. An inuksuk-like monument in the form of a human being is called an inunnguaq (an imitation of a person).
