Aramis má v románu vlastní jméno abbé d'Herblay nebo rytír d'Herblay. Ve Trech mušketýrech ješte po deseti letech je znám jako biskup z Vannes a po návratu z exilu též jako španelský šlechtic, vévoda z Alamedy. Je to nejtajemnejší muž ze všech ctyr prátel, pozdeji významný clen rádu jezuitu a clovek schopný sprádat velké intriky. Jeho postava byla vytvorena rovnež podle skutecného mušketýra, který se jmenoval Henri d'Aramitz
