Keychain pendant with depiction of Girl with Pearl Earring on one side and the museum housing the painting on the other. This painting is probably Vermeer's most famous one and it is my favorite among all the masters. It is located in the Mauritshuis in The Hague. Photographs and prints just do not do it justice. Vermeer is regarded as highly as Frans Hals and Rembrandt by students of 17th century art, although only some 40 of his paintings are known. There are three in the Mauritshuis and three more in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The latter houses The Milkmaid, also a wonderful work by Vermeer. The tulip season, these paintings and the other Dutch Masters were the impetus for our trip.
