Often seen in groups,and usually up to several families living together.Meerkats(Suricata suricatta)squirell sized mongooses are famed for their upright lookout position,which is used on the african plains watching for birds of prey such as eagles and hawkes.They use a sharp shrill call to signal to take cover.Meerkats will eat lizards,insects,birds and fruit.Meerkats utailse different burrows and often move from one to another,that remain cool in the african heat.females give birth to two to four young and the father and sibblings help to teach the young to forage and play.Yong meerkats are so timid that an aircraft flying over head will send them scurrying for cover.
