Fangheuschrecke. Die Gottesanbeterin hat ihren Namen von ihrer Körperhaltung. Sie hat ihre Vorderbeine oft angewinkelt; das sieht aus, als würde sie beten.
An ihrem dreieckigen Kopf fallen sofort die großen Facettenaugen auf: sie sitzen seitlich am Kopf. Damit hat sie einen guten Überblick.
Zudem kann sie ihren Kopf sehr gut drehen und so ihre Beute mit den Augen verfolgen.
Die Gottesanbeterin bewohnt Büsche und Sträucher, aber man findet sie auch auf dem Boden des Graslandes.
Sie liebt besonders sonnige Hänge und Waldränder. Dort krabbeln die erwachsenen Tiere hauptsächlich von August bis Oktober herum.
Latin name: Mantis religiosa
The praying mantis gets its name from its posture. It often bends its front legs, which gives the appearance of it praying. The most striking feature of its triangular head are the compound eyes, which sit on the side of the head and these give it good all round vision.
In addition, they can turn their heads very well and thus track their prey with their eyes.
The praying mantis lives in bushes and shrubs, but they are also found on the floor of the grasslands.
She especially loves sunny slopes and forest edges. There the adult creatures can be found crawling around mainly from August to October.
