Iain M Banks was a prolific writer his Culture series is one of the best sci-fi opera series out there, the first I ever read was 'Excession' and I loved it, it has my favourite character in any book the ship this bug is named after 'The Sleeper Service'. On a mission to present itself as eccentric whilst building a defence force (just in case) in secret, saving the day and then heading of in to the dark-blue yonder of the galaxy...
