This Travel Bug is a sherd of pottery from the Roman Age. It would like to go to the capital of the Roman Empire (Rome) and then to be brought back to the Roman province Germania Inferior, tot the castellum of Albanianae (to be exact Alphen aan den Rijn in the Netherlands).
This is my first found item as an archaeologist. I was 13 years old and was invited to work at a dig near the town of De Meern in the Netherlands. I saw this shard shining from the sun on the dump of the dig. It turned out to be provincial-Roman pottery from ca. 100-200 AD. Because it was found on the dump it had lost its archaeological context and i even could take it with me. At the time it was my dream to become an archaeologist and now I am a fulltime archaeologist. This shard of pottery is special because of this story. When I decided what should be my first travel bug, I remembered this shard of pottery. I can't think of anything that would be more suited as a travel bug. I hope that everyone who sees it has the same kind of experience as when I first found it.
