This travel bug was placed by us, young people in Global Kids, Inc. and the Brooklyn Public Library in the summer of 2012. We placed a total of 48 bugs all over Queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn associated with topics we feel are important to society and should be discussed in the 2012 Presidential Election campaigns. This travel bug is racing against the other travel bugs. If you want to get your and our point across, will you help it run the race?

The issue for this travel bug is: College Tuition
The issue for this travel bug is the high cost of college tuition. The term “college tuition” refers to fees which students have to pay to attend college in the United States. The high price of college tuition is a major problem people are facing today. In order to pay for these high tuition costs students are forced to take out student loans which puts these students in debt. Student loans for college tuitions have become one of the top debts faced by Americans today, rivalling credit card and car loan debt.
When college tuition is so high it discourages newcomers to not apply to college in the first place because in their mind they will think going to college will create debt for them in the future. If they are discouraged to go to college, they wouldn’t be able to better their education as well as get a better job. If you graduate in debt, you’ll have to pay your loans back. If the debts are large, then you are forced to take jobs just to pay off the debt.
We chose this topic because it’s a realistic problem that we’ll face soon. Most of us are starting college in the fall so raising the college tuition is not going to help us one bit. Along with tuition, we’ll have to pay for books, room and board and also food to eat.
Do you think that this issue should be discussed in the debates, campaign stops, and in ads of the 2012 Presidential Election campaign? If so, then move it closer to Washington, D.C. If not, then move it away from Washington, D.C. On Tuesday, November 6th, 2012, the final votes will be tallied.
We hope to see photos of the bug on its travels and we would love to know why you chose to move it closer to or farther from the White House.
If you see our fellow travellers, then please help them too. If you want to learn more about this project please visit our blog here: http://www.olpglobalkids.org/gaming/geocaching
