To blast off into the geocaching cosmos! It hopes to make it to the International Space Station and beyond in the future.
This Travel bug was released (complete with it's own rocket ship) on November 6th, 2013 from the Geocaching In Space Rocket Launch Event in Albertville, MN. At 10:08 PM CST, the Soyuz TMA-11M spacecraft lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, carrying 3 astronauts to the International Space Station.
Living up to its name as a symbol of exploration and adventure - a Geocaching Travel Bug® rocketed into space with one of the astronauts. Rick Mastracchio (AstroRM) took the Travel Bug to the ISS and will use it to teach students back on Earth about geography and science.
Including this event, geocachers around the world hosted more than 1150 geocaching events to celebrate the launch, making it one of the most popular events in geocaching history. Thank you Rick for helping bring us closer to the stars!
