A ideia de utilizar a arte do fogo de filigrana como tema de uma geocoin foi inicialmente apresentada pelo Kelux no Concurso de Ideias da Geocoin Oficial Portuguesa 2010, não tendo no entanto recolhido a maioria dos votos.

Posteriormente sofreu algumas alterações e o designer decidiu avançar com a sua produção a título individual.

Dessas alterações, realça-se a introdução de texto em inglês de modo a tornar a geocoin mais apetecível para geocachers e colecionadores estrangeiros.

A filigrana portuguesa foi integrada no luxuoso património da joalharia em Portugal para representar temas variados da história, cultura e Tradição Portuguesa, do mar, natureza, religião ou o amor. São disso exemplo, os corações de Viana, as arrecadas, os crucifixos, os brincos de fuso ou à rainha, as cruzes de Malta, os colares de conta.

Além de constituir um adereço e marca de distinção social a filigrana portuguesa em ouro assumia também um investimento e uma mais-valia para as famílias. As peças da filigrana portuguesa são usadas como adereços valiosos para festas especiais, seja por grupos sociais de condição elevada, seja por pessoas de menos posses, sendo parte integrante e enriquecendo os trajes tradicionais portugueses do Minho e do Douro Litoral. 

A filigrana é uma arte exclusivamente manual, exigindo dos artesãos um trabalho muito paciente, imaginativo e de grande destreza. Esta técnica é uma arte muito meticulosa e os artesãos que são capazes de a trabalhar, apuram um grande prazer em cada trabalho que concluem. 

Significado

Filigrana é um termo derivado do latim FILUM que designa fio e GRANUM, que significa grão. Trata-se de uma arte que trabalha o ouro, prata, bronze e outros metais através de graciosos fios destes materiais, subtilmente entrelaçados que dão origem a obras de arte elaboradas e de vários padrões.

Existem duas espécies de filigrana: a filigrana de aplicação, utilizada para motivos decorativos e a filigrana de integração que fabrica a própria peça exclusivamente em filigrana. Os fios são torcidos, golpeados e colocados a uma fonte de calor de modo a amolecerem e ficarem bem afilados, sendo objeto de limpeza e ficando em condições de serem trabalhados pelos ourives.

Localização

Os principais pólos de fabrico da filigrana portuguesa, localizam nas imediações da cidade do Porto – Gondomar e em Braga – Póvoa de Lanhoso. As peças de filigrana portuguesa fabricadas em maior quantidade são para uso pessoal, destacando-se as arrecadas e argolas de Viana, os brincos à rainha, os corações filigranados e medalhões, as cruzes e os colares de contas do Minho. Outros objetos de grande ostentação, como relicários, caixas, colares de gramalheiras, custódias ou esculturas ornamentais (caso da caravela), são igualmente manufaturados, para atender uma procura cada vez mais abrangente e que não se limita somente a Portugal.

The idea of using the fire of filigree as the theme of a geocoin was initially presented by Kelux in the Geocoin Official Portuguese Contest 2010, but did not receive a majority of the votes.

Later it underwent some changes and the designer decided to advance with its production in individual title.

Of these changes, emphasis is placed on the introduction of English text in order to make the geocoin more attractive to geocachers and foreign collectors.

The Portuguese filigree has been integrated into the luxurious jewelery heritage in Portugal to represent varied themes of history, culture and Portuguese Tradition, the sea, nature, religion or love. Examples of this are the hearts of Viana, the graveyards, the crosses, the spindle or queen earrings, the crosses of Malta, the necklaces of account.

In addition to being a prop and mark of social distinction, the Portuguese filigree in gold also assumed an investment and an added value for the families. The pieces of Portuguese filigree are used as valuable props for special parties, either by social groups of high condition, or by people of lesser possessions, being an integral part and enriching the traditional Portuguese costumes of Minho and Douro Litoral.

The filigree is an exclusively manual art, requiring craftsmen to work very patient, imaginative and with great skill. This technique is a very meticulous art and the craftsmen who are able to work it, enjoy a great pleasure in each work they complete.

Meaning

Filigrana is a term derived from the Latin FILUM that designates yarn and GRANUM, that means grain. It is an art that works gold, silver, bronze and other metals through graceful strands of these subtly intertwined materials that give rise to elaborate works of art and various patterns.

There are two species of filigree: the filigree of application, used for decorative motifs and the filigree of integration that manufactures the piece itself exclusively in filigree. The yarns are twisted, beaten and placed in a source of heat so that they soften and become very sharp, being cleaned and being able to be worked by the goldsmiths.

Location

The main poles of manufacture of Portuguese filigree, located in the vicinity of the city of Porto - Gondomar and Braga - Póvoa de Lanhoso. The pieces of Portuguese filigree fabricated in greater quantity are for personal use, highlighting the rings and rings of Viana, the earrings to the queen, the filigree hearts and medallions, the crosses and the beads necklaces of Minho. Other objects of great ostentation, such as reliquaries, boxes, necklaces of grammars, wickerwork or ornamental sculptures (in the case of the caravel), are also manufactured, to meet an increasingly broader demand that is not limited to Portugal alone.
