Einmal um die ganze Welt
once around the world
Martin Pumphut erlernte das Müllerhandwerk, sprach gut sorbisch und deutsch und hatte immer Streiche im Sinn. Auf seinen Wanderungen zog er von Mühle zu Mühle. Wo es ihm gefiel, da blieb er, und für gute Arbeit und Herberge erzählte er den Leuten allerhand Späße, lustige Geschichten und zauberte zum Vergnügen. Wurde er aber schlecht behandelt, waren die Leute böse, niederträchtig, gemein oder geizig zahlte er es ihnen mit allerlei Streichen heim. Sein "Zauberstock" war auch sein "Markenzeichen": Mit seinem hohen, spitzen und breitkrempigen Hut vollführte er die Zauberkunststücke. Nun möchte er um die ganze Welt und ich glaub mit Euch schafft er es.
Martin Pumphut lerned the miller's trade, spoke good German and Sorbian and had always pranks in mind. At his hikes he moved from mill to mill. Where he liked, there he stays and for good work and hostel, he told the people sorts of jokes, funny stories and conjured for pleasure. But when he treated badly, where the people are evil, mean or miserly, he paid with sorts of pranks back. His "magic wand" was his "trademark" : with his high, pointed ande wide-brimming head, he performed the magic tricks. Now he wants around the world and I think with you he manages it even.
