Current Goal

Please drop this item in rural OR Premium Member Only caches.  Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event.  Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean and prevents tangling with other items.  Otherwise, take the travel bug anywhere you wish.  No permission is needed to leave the U.S.

Photos in the travel bug logs are appreciated.  I will be re-post them here, where they can be seen by other cachers.

About This Item

lovebugacrylicredsparkle

This is one of a series of heart-shaped items obtained from different places and converted into travel bugs. They are named either for the places of their origin or for Texas Panhandle-South Plains towns with interesting names or histories.

Fluvanna is located in Scurry County, at the edge of the plateau of the Southern High Plains.  The community was named for a surveyor's home county in Virginia. Fluvanna was established by realty promoters who knew that the Roscoe, Snyder and Pacific Railway would terminate at this site.  By the time the railroad arrived in 1908, the townsite had already been staked off and lots put on sale.  It boomed briefly and by 1911 had two real estate offices, a thirty-room hotel, a lumber yard, a cotton gin, and other businesses. Fluvanna's importance lessened when the Roscoe, Snyder and Pacific closed the Fluvanna station in 1941 and major highways bypassed the area.  The population dropped from a high of 500 in 1915 to 180 in the 2000 Census.  In recent years, all businesses except the post office have closed in downtown. However, wind energy farms along the edge of the plateau have increased activity in the region.
